I joined ASLTIP in 1996 when I began working full time as an independent practitioner and from the beginning I found the support of the organisation invaluable.
When I first qualified I worked in several posts covering a wide variety of communication problems, including 4 years with the MoD in Germany where my remit was .all clinics west of the Rhine.! This was mainly school-based work but also included a small number of adult patients in the local RAF hospital. Following this I worked in Milton Keynes, where I was the only SLT for the whole of North Bucks and worked across 9 different locations covering an enormous variety of communication difficulties.
In 1976 I moved to the Kent/Sussex area and worked in the ENT department of a large hospital providing acute, rehabilitation and community services to adults and children. This is where I developed a particular interest and expertise in voice and acquired neurological disorders.
In 1995 my post of manager to the local SLT service was made redundant and I decided to go back to basics and work clinically again . a good decision.
Working with and being part of ASLTIP has helped me to revitalise my approach to working with clients and I would like to continue my present level of involvement with ASLTIP as Treasurer.
