Local Groups Policy
ASLTIP local groups have developed from the needs of individual clinicians in independent practice to share information and developments in speech and language therapy and for the maintenance of nationally acceptable guidelines for the management of independent practice.
ASLTIP local groups are recognised and supported by ASLTIP as an accessible means for continuing professional development, maintaining skills and providing support to members who work in sole practice. Local groups are led by members, for members, and are organised by elected or voluntary committees.
The benefits of local group membership may be:
Professional Development
Keeping abreast of
- current professional developments in Speech and Language Therapy;
- acceptable guidelines for the management of Independent Practice.
- Training clinical and professional.
Opportunities to
- contribute to standard setting and guidelines;
- contribute to ASLTIP policy development
- give presentations;
- develop leadership skills via involvement in committee work.
Support
- Networking access to advisers/colleagues working in similar areas
- Access to peer group support/supervision/mentoring
- Sharing evidence based practice e.g. ways of working;
- Promoting co-operation with professional colleagues in all sectors
Research and development
- Accessible, inexpensive, value for money.
In order to be valuable to the membership it is important that local groups operate in a professional manner and demonstrate true value in professional development and training, but each local group will be unique in its formation, style of meetings and agenda.
