Mrs Deborah Patel

My passion is to support children with speech and language difficulties and those with complex needs/learning difficulties with a variety of diagnoses. My particular interest is those with Autism, Down Syndrome and speech and language delay and disorder. My ethos is to develop the knowledge and skills of those around the child to empower them to support the child every day. I love working across mainstream settings and special schools to support those with speech, language and social skill difficulties. Where clinically appropriate, I believe in developing Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) systems such as symbol, sign and low/high tech aids to support the child to become an independent and competent communicator. I have worked within a highly specialist team in the NHS my entire career and started in private practice in 2014. I continue to work part-time within the NHS whilst working independently. I believe continuing to work within the NHS supports me to be a dynamic, skilful and evidence-based therapist who is surrounded by the skills and knowledge of a multidisciplinary team. I am an Elkan Tutor and Makaton Tutor which enables me to deliver a variety of accredited specialist training packages to settings and schools.
